HOME INVASION ROBBERY–Three Arrested in Marijuana/Money Theft

SANTA BARBARA, CA – On 07/31/09 at approximately 2:03 p.m., Officers responded to a robbery that had just occurred on the 100 block of Oceano Ave. Upon arrival, Officers interviewed the 23 year old male victim. The victim stated that he was in his apartment on Oceano Ave. when three black male adults came up to his apartment. The victim knew one of the subjects from a previous interaction. He let the subjects into his apartment and was immediately assaulted. The subjects caused injuries to victim?s face, head, and leg. The subjects were able to get away on foot stealing cash and marijuana from the victim. The Narcotic and Crimes Against Persons Detectives responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The victim was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and treated for his injuries. He was later released from the hospital.
Santa Barbara Detectives developed leads on the investigation and on 08/01/09, at approximately 6:40 p.m. detectives along with patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on the 200 block of Los Alamos Drive. Taken into custody were Gina Elizabeth Mead, age 20, and Dominique Xavier Battle, age 20, both residents of Santa Barbara. They were transported to the station for further investigation. Once at the station detectives learned that Mead had driven Battle to the victim?s address. Once there, Battle met two black male adults outside and they next proceeded to the victim?s apartment. Battle and the two male subjects went inside and robbed the victim of approximately 2 ounces of marijuana and $200 cash.
Mead and Battle were transported and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for Robbery, Burglary, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Conspiracy.
UPDATE:
Through continued investigative measures two additional suspects were identified in the Home Invasion Robbery that occurred on July 31, 2009 on the 100 block of Oceano Ave. Information was also confirmed that a handgun had been used by the suspects during the robbery. The first of those suspects was identified as Miles Mims, age 20. Mims was ultimately located and taken into custody on August 4, 2009, at approximately 12:45 p.m. without incident. Mims was accompanied by a young woman who does not appear to be related to the crime but was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant. A replica firearm was found in the vehicle that Mims and his female companion were associated with. The female was later cited and released on the traffic warrant. Mims was arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for Robbery, Burglary, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.
The second suspect who remains outstanding at this time has been identified as Carl Douglas Whaley, age 19, a black male adult 5′09″, 155lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. Whaley has ties to the Los Angeles area and is considered to be armed and dangerous. An arrest warrant for Carl Whaley has been obtained. SANTA BARBARA, CA – On 07-28-2009 at approximately 11:35 p.m., Officers were on a directed patrol in the area of Modoc at Mission Street they saw a subject, later identified as JAMES FULLER, 18 years of age, walking along the sidewalk. As they began to make a U-turn in the intersection in order to contact him, Fuller began to run and dropped a shopping bag filled with spray paint cans. One officer ran after Fuller and engaged in a foot pursuit that lasted several blocks. The officer was able to catch up to Fuller and arrest him once the officer advised Fuller to give up or be tased. After the arrest, officers noticed that Fuller had paint on his finger tips. They began to search the area for any graffiti and found several telephone poles with “BOSS” freshly spray painted on them. Fuller was transported to the police department for further investigation. Once at the police department, an officer witnessed Fuller use his cell phone to etch “BS” in the wood area of an interview room. Fuller was transported and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for resisting/delaying arrest and possession of spray paint with the intent to commit vandalism. The case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office with recommendations that Fuller also be charged with two counts of vandalism.
