MEMBERS OF CREDIT CARD FORGERY RING ARRESTED
September 7th, 2011

Two women, both from the Los Angeles area, were arrested today after stealing credit cards and ID's from purses at an area grocery store. After obtaining the credit cards, the women first went to a local branch of Chase Bank, where they attempted to obtain a $2,000.00 cash advance on one of the victims' credit cards. Bank employees were wise to the illegitimate attempt. The employees denied the transaction and retained the credit card and ID before the suspects fled. Later in the day, one of the bank employees observed the two suspects at a grocery store in Carpinteria. That employee immediately called 9-1-1, and the Sheriff's Department responded and detained both suspects. Two additional involved suspects, described only as one Hispanic female and one black male, left without further detection or apprehension. The two men were reportedly involved in the earlier thefts from purses. The ensuing investigation by SBPD Officer Eccles revealed that the women had been successful in obtaining a $3,000.00 cash advance on the same victim's B of A account. Both suspects were arrested and booked for burglary, credit card forgery, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

STABBING SUSPECT TURNS HIMSELF IN
August 17th, 2011

SANTA BARBARA, CA–On 8/12/11 at approximately 1100 hours, Officers responded to 1100 State Street for the report of a stabbing that had just occurred. On arrival, officers found paramedics from AMR attending to the 25 year old African-American victim. The victim was suffering from two stab wounds to the head later determined to be non- life threatening. The victim stated he was walking on State Street, with a Caucasian friend, rapping a song. They were approached by the Caucasian male adult, later identified as Ryan Christopher Zietlow-Brown, 24 years of age. Zietlow-Brown asked the victim if his friend was “white”. When the victim responded that his friend was, Zietlow-Brown responded by telling the victim to have his friend act like it. The victim took offense to the comments and he and the Zietlow-Brown were engaged in a verbal altercation and posturing to fight. A fight did not erupt and they separated ways. The victim and his friend entered a food establishment, bought food and were walking southbound in the 1100 block of State Street, when they were again confronted by the Zietlow-Brown. The victim and Zietlow-Brown began posturing to fight again when the Zietlow-Brown produced a pair of scissors and held them in a threatening manner towards the victim. The victim began to retreat and while doing so, throws a strike at Zietlow-Brown in an attempt to defend himself. The momentum of the strike caused the victim to fall to the ground. While on the ground, Zietlow-Brown raised the scissors and thrust them downward two times striking the victim in the head. The suspect fled the scene before responding officers arrived.

Santa Barbara Police Department detectives were called to the scene, interviewed witnesses, and developed leads. Detectives identified Zietlow-Brown as the suspect the following day and began an active search for him. On 08/15/11 at approximately 1500 hours, Zietlow-Brown turned himself in to authorities and was arrested without incident.

Zietlow-Brown was transported and booked at Santa Barbara County Jail for Attempted Murder. Santa Barbara Detectives are still investigating the incident to determine whether they will seek filing Hate Crime charges with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office.
