Recent recipients include:
POA member Lorena Renteria, a Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor, is currently
fundraising and will be participating in the JDRF's annual "Walk to Cure Diabetes" on
September 10th. If you wish to donate to this cause and support her efforts, you can go
direclty to her donation page HERE.
In October 2011, SBPOA members Sgt Dan McGrew and Sgt Todd Stoney will be
$160 entry fee out of their own pockets, in support of the group Cops Running For Charity
(CRFC), a grassroots organization based in Ventura County. CRFC was founded by six
Ventura County Sheriff's Office members, all of whom are avid runners. They have participated in marathons and other athletic events all over the world and have raised more than $150,000 for children's charitites. 100% of the money donated to CRFC goes to the recipient organization - the runners pay all their own fees and travel expenses.
Recently the SBPOA supported CRFC with a $500 donation to Captain Paul Higgason of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. He and the other runners will be traveling to Patagonia in November and participating in the Patagonia South America Marathon. You can read more about Cops Running for Charity HERE.
CRFC Update:
"The Cops Running for Charity (CRFC) team
returned from the Patagonia Marathon the week
before Thanksgiving. We all finished this difficult
marathon and ultimately returned home safely.
The marathon comprised three huge climbs in the
foothills of the Andes mountain range in the
southern portion of Argentina. There was a lot of
ash in the air from a volcano that recently erupted
in the region so face scarfs were issued to runners
to protect lungs as needed during the run.
In this years charity fund raising efforts we were able to raise approximately $40,000 to go to Children's Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Make a Wish, and the Boys and Girls Club to name a few. I attached a team picture with our banner showing many of the entities who supported the charities we run for. Santa Barbara PD POA is on the right hand side of banner. I also attached a picture of 3 of us crossing the finish line (we ran in two groups).
Our CRFC team wanted to thank the SBPD POA
once again for your generous donation of $500 this
year to the charities we support through the
marathons that we run. Your support of our efforts
is greatly appreciated."
Sincerely,
Capt. Paul Higgason,
Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
